The 8th Annual CCAPAP Adult Spelling Bee was held on March 5, 2014 at South View High School. |
Kids are not the only ones who should experience the anxiety and excitement that accompanies Spelling Bee Territory. For eight years, the Cumberland County Association of Principals and Assistant Principals has hosted an Adult Spelling Bee with the intent of raising thousands of dollars for student scholarships. Last year, the group awarded over $13,000 to deserving high school seniors.
This definitely was not your typical spelling bee. This spelling bee was quite collaborative. Participants were able to consult with their team members as they wrote the words on chart paper. If the teams spelled the words correctly, they remained in the Bee while the teams that misspelled the words were able to buy their way back into the Bee. An enormous amount of money was raised during the buy-back rounds!
I loved the fact that students were involved. Members of the Student Government Association and Tiger Stripes were the attendants for the event. They helped to keep the event running smoothly.
One of the teams from Jack Britt High School walked away as the undisputed winners!
Here are pictures from the fun-filled event:
